Top 5 Reasons to Adopt a Senior Pet

Let’s be honest. How many of us can truly say we went to the shelter in search of a senior pet? Most of us go looking for the cute little puppy or kitten. Well, here are some fantastic reasons to consider a senior pet the next time you’re in search of a fur baby.

  1. You’re probably going to save a life
Senior pets are often overlooked in shelters. They tend to spend more time waiting for a new home and are often first on the list of humane euthanasia simply due to overcrowding in shelters.
  2. Most senior pets are already trained!
Senior dogs (and cats!) Already know basic commands or are already litter trained. This gives more time to teach them new tricks!
  3. Less energetic
Oh, the puppy/ kitten destructive stage! Funny to look back on, not so fun at the time. Guess what?! Senior pets are passed this! No teething puppies getting into everything and kittens climbing the curtains! Hooray!
  4. No change in personality
Remember how Fido used to act when he was a puppy, but now he is different? Well, no need to worry because our senior pets have already matured and have a set personality. What you see is what you get.
  5. Last but not least, pets don’t outgrow cuteness!
One thing is for sure though. Senior pets are equally as cute as their younger counterparts. And nothing will change this!

So the next time you or someone you know is thinking about adopting, remember those seniors. Let’s give them a great place to call home again!
