Pet of the Month: Wizzer Millet (Dec 2001 – Nov 2014)

This month we would like to celebrate the life of a very special dog who lost her fight with cancer in early November. Wizzer Millett was a Nova Scotia Duck Toller, a breed known for its intelligence and high-energy, and Wizzer was certainly no exception! Wizzer worked as a certified Therapy Dog with the Therapy Tailblazers Organization and loved helping people with disabilities, both physically and emotionally.

Our team here at Riverview fondly remembers how Wizzer would come and visit with her sister Sadie, brightening her day, while Sadie was in hospital for over a week after having two consecutive knee surgeries. Sadie, a beautiful 5-year-old Newfoundland Shepherd Mix, is also a certified Therapy Dog with the Therapy Tailblazers. She and Wizzer were great friends who loved to work and play together.

Earlier this year Wizzer was diagnosed with a malignant tumour on her spleen and underwent a splenectomy (a surgery to remove the spleen) in September. We will never forget how happy Wizzer was just two days after surgery, rolling around and playing with Sadie. A few weeks after the splenectomy, it was found that Wizzer’s cancer had metastasized to the lungs; heartbreakingly, there was nothing more we could do.

Wizzer Millett lost her battle on November 1st, 2014.

Right until the end she had the joy and zest for life of a young puppy, and she will always be remembered this way; her spirit will forever remain with her mom & dad, Shelley & Bill Millett, her sister Sadie, all the people she helped as a Therapy Tailblazer, and all of us here at Riverview Animal Hospital.

“[Our hearts] will always wear, the pawprints left by you”
