Ways of Being Active With Your Dog

Exercise for a dog is very important; depending on the breed and activity level, some may need more exercise than others. With spring being here and summer coming right around the corner, there are lots of fun activities you can do with your dog. Hiking, canoeing, yoga, camping, swimming, socialization with other dogs and more.

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise helps reduce behavioural issues such as excessive barking, chewing and digging. It also helps digestive issues and keeps your dog healthy and agile, a tired dog is a good dog!

Canine Sports

There are some great sports that you can partake with your dog such as agility, flyball, canicross, bikejoring and skijoring, during the winter. My dog Spencer and I partake in canicross and bikejoring competitions together, we have run up to 15 km races together as a team – two feet and four paws, let’s run!

What is Canicross?

Canicross is the powered sport of cross country running with your dog, it is a great activity for both you and your dog if you both like running. It keeps your dog mentally challenged, and you work together as a team. Some equipment is required such as; a belt, a pulling harness and a bungee cord. Your dog must be at least 12 months of age to participate.

When it comes to exercising your dog, be creative and most importantly, have fun!
